Final Week of Attention
Week six of six!
We have come almost to the end of the Attention Project.
Here are your instructions for this week:
This week, you should continue previous practices: (1) Listen to this meditation. (2) (Immediately afterward), turn off the device on which you listened to the meditation and set aside at least one hour during which all your electronic devices are turned off. (3) On one day this week include at least 30 minutes of reading in your unplugged time. (4) On one day this week include at least 30 minutes of walking in your unplugged time. (5) On one day this week, include at least 30 minutes of connecting with a friend. (6) (Right away, if possible, but, some time before the day is over) spend at least three minutes writing, describing your experiences of these habits. On Saturday, spend a little longer (a minimum of 15 minutes) writing as you reflect on the whole week.
Then, this week, choose a day on which you will spend at least 30 minutes in prayer or meditation during your unplugged time.
This time can be spent in many ways. You could pray traditional Christian prayers (reading the Psalms or praying the rosary). You could spend the time in informal, spontaneous conversation with God. You could simply choose silence. Or, you could choose some combination of different methods. There is no need to make it complicated. The main point of prayer is to open your heart and mind to bigger realities.
I hope the sixth week will be the most fruitful of the whole Attention Project.
Please let me know if you have questions.
